Exhibition - Photographs taken by the children of the Karuani Illam Children's Home

The Trustees are so excited to present a photo Exhibition at the Mahara Gallery in Waikanae. Shown for the first time in New Zealand are photographs taken by the children of the Karuani Illam Children's Home - our children. With the help of Mo Greig, a London based Kiwi photographer , these children express their creativity and show us (the adults) how they see their world through a camera lens.

How did this begin?

Through the work and legacy of Jean Watson

Wellington writer, the late Jean Watson, founded the Illam (‘Home’ in Tamil) in 1987 to help poor children in Nilakottai, Tamilnadu, India. The DHAN KARUNAI ILLAM is now a model institution caringly built over 30 years with the support of mostly New Zealanders. The Illam is managed by DHAN a highly regarded Indian development organisation.
